Islam and Mohammed permitted First-Cousin Marriage but Science tells its dangerous to Health
A message to muslim brothers and sisters:
” risk of marrying first cousin”, a BBC documentary.
Muhammad claimed in sura 33:50 that it was ok to marry first cousins. but the scientists have recently discovered that the children born into the family of first cousins are 13 times more likely to carry RGD ( recessive genetic disorder) than the children born into the family where parents are not first cousins. RGD can cause many desease from skin cancer and other abnormalities to heart deseases. these children never recover from their illness. these poor angels die early of no fault of theirs. According to BBC documentary tittled ” risk of cousin’s marriage”, scientists in uk recorded that children born in muslim families, where 55% of them are married to their first cousins, make up to 33% of those carrying RGD, even though they constitute only 3% of all children born in uk.

“Perhaps surprisingly to many, the genetic risks which have been associated with cousin marriage have been substantially OVERSTATED.
While some families and communities are indeed more likely to be affected by otherwise rare inherited diseases, a large majority of first cousin offspring show no disadvantage in health terms.
Further, many of the ill-effects on health that have been ascribed to “inbreeding” are more probably due to a wide range of adverse non-genetic factors, including young maternal age, very short birth intervals, trans-placental infection of the developing fetus with organisms such as rubella and cytomegalovirus, and inadequate nutrition both during pregnancy and early childhood.”
“It is not an issue we are accustomed to dealing with as a society, but once we remove historical prejudice, we find that consanguineous marriage is not the backwoods horror story we have been led to believe”

Geneticist who has been researching the health aspects of consanguineous marriage for over 30 years in South and Southeast Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, among migrant communities in Australia and the UK, and as adviser to the World Health Organization.
Health Risks to Offspring
The assumption that children of first cousins are likely to suffer from health problems has been around for centuries, Bittles says. “Although there has been a tradition of cousin marriage among royalty, major land-owning families and some business dynasties, the highest rates of consanguinity [cousin marriage] are actually among the rural poor whose general health status often is marginal,” he says. “Under these circumstances, unless appropriate allowance is made for adverse family socioeconomics, just about all health problems have simply been blamed on consanguinity, even though there usually is no specific evidence of a causal relationship between consanguinity and the disorder in question.”
Bittles’ studies have found that the instance of major health problems in the offspring of cousins is much lower than you may think. “[There is] an excess risk of early death or major ill health of 3.5 percent among the children of first cousins—which is much less than [many people] would have anticipated,” Alan says.”In general terms, our studies have shown that the health risks attributed to consanguinity have been exaggerated.”
